Knowing YOU - the One in the Mirror

Written by Sally Cofer-Lindberg (August 3, 2010)

Do you love what you do in your career? Or do you go to work, juicing yourself up to just get in the door and get through the day? If you are struggling with the tasks that are assigned to you, if each day brings more struggle than joy and your energy feels depleted by your work, perhaps you are not utilizing the natural talents and skills you possess.

Here are two questions I always ask my clients to ponder: What is your value?  and Are you doing what you were meant to do on this earth? I know these are big and, for some, very scary questions to whisper, let alone speak aloud. My belief is that each of us knows our answers to those questions. Getting there, however, is not easy for many of us. It takes work and courage to look under the protective layers we have piled on over the years to get to our core where those answers reside. In my experience in working with clients (and through my own interior journey), seeing the real value of the face in the mirror and claiming the talents, skills and abilities of that individual does not happen overnight. We are brilliant at recognizing our negative qualities and not so bright in owning the positives.

So, we will settle for something that is less than the more we deserve. We might be willing to surround ourselves with "friends" who are less than supportive of our efforts to grow. We might be willing to stay stagnant in a job that stifles us (hey, in this economy it is great to have a job, right?). We might just stay in our comfort zone while that piece of us is yearning to do something more!

Self-assessment is an exciting, wonderful, scary, enticing, enriching and exhilarating place to visit! The new land you enter holds great gifts for you. Among them may be an entirely new career, or perhaps an innovative way of managing your current career, and definitely knowing that you are indeed a person of great value and worth! Take the trip!

"You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition.  What you'll discover will be wonderful.  What you'll discover is yourself."

 ~ Alan Alda
